ASC

ASC is Australia’s largest specialised shipbuilding organisation, as well as the nation’s last remaining Australian-owned prime defence contractor. With a team of over 1,400 personnel, including 280 naval design and engineering specialists, ASC excels in complex engineering, module construction and systems integration challenges.

As the AWD Program shipbuilder, ASC is responsible for the construction of the AWDs at its dedicated, state-of-the-art shipyard at Osborne, South Australia.

In support of this role, ASC will manage:

  • Block construction and integration, including combat and platform systems integration and fabrication;
  • Subcontracting selected blocks;
  • Production design;
  • Planning and scheduling;
  • Supply chain management for major systems and equipment;
  • Platform integrated lifecycle support planning;
  • Liaison with Navantia, the platform system designer; and
  • Ship testing and activation.

In addition, ASC is spending $120 million upgrading its shipyard to allow fabrication and construction of ship blocks, assembly of the ships (including handling and transport), outfitting work, set-to-work of equipment and systems, and trial activities.

ASC’s new state-of-the-art facility will be advantaged by the use of Techport Australia’s Common User Facility, including access to Australia’s largest ship lift, wharf and transfer area.

Bringing world’s best practice in surface combatant ship construction and design, ASC has partnered with General Dynamics’ subsidiary Bath Iron Works to support its role as AWD shipbuilder.
